Let’s begin

… it’s all about you…

There are two ways to approach the initial questions as  a DREAM or as 5 Key Questions. Answer either or both if your prefer – if answering both leave some time between.

Have you got a D.R.E.A.M.?

When we undertake this programme in a classroom or seminar we do a few exercises to get to know one another and to focus on backgrounds, interests and ideas of the group.

We can’t quite do that here so instead what is your D.R.E.A.M.?

Make a some notes about each of the following:

D – What is your Dream business? What do you see yourself doing in it? Who are you working with? Where?
R – What Resources do you have access to? Car, premises, computer, phone?
E – What do you Enjoy doing? Can you build your business based on your formal or informal Education, Learning and Experiences? When thinking about it – include things you might have done as a hobby …
A – What kinds of Activities do you like? What are you good At? …
M – Do you know what really Motivates you? What are you Motivated to do?

Answered those and ready to go on?

5 Key Questions

Take some time time to focus on these key questions:

1. Have you got an Idea for a Business?
2. What are you good at?
3. What do you like doing?
4. What motivates you?
5. What assets / resources do you have access to?

If you don’t have an idea then one could be based on your answers to 2 to 5, if you do have an idea and it isn’t based on your answers to 2 – 5 then it might be worth thinking some more!

… about businesses …

When we undertake this programme in a classroom or seminar setting we usually begin with a short introduction to what businesses are based on. In practice all businesses are based on one (or occasionally a combination of) these 3 things:

1. Resources

2. Processes

3. Competences

… my business could be based on …

In setting up your business you are likely to start yours on the same basis so as a quick exercise note down in your workbook or notepad:

What Resources do I have?

You might for example have / have access to a house or office, a car, a computer, tools and / or equipment, money, people with relevant skills etc.

What Proceses am I skilled at?

You might for example be good at baking, sewing, fixing things, making things, taking photographs , desgning materials etc.

What Skills / Competences do I have?

You might for example be good with people, good at working with your hands, be artistic, be good at selling etc

Take a little time to think about these questions, and note your answers in the 7 Step Start-up Workbook or in your own notebook. We will come back to these questions later.
